Laddie

Thursday, October 18, 2018. Daily Brit Wit.

Laddie:

Noun, informal, chiefly Scottish

Another term for lad. A boy or a young man (often used as a form of address).

“Autumnal skies blanket Mother Earth
like the fraying quilt
at the foot of your bed
muted and soft
worn to the touch
a hole once big enough
for your foot
now yanked open
from many nights
getting stuck and unraveling–
I glance at your room
sighing gently
hand to my bosom
and I wonder how in the world
my sweet laddie
grew into a strapping young man here.”
