Go off on one

Monday, June 18, 2018. Daily Brit Wit.

Go off on one:

Phrase, British informal

Become very angry or excited.

“Soft lavender permeates our room
scenting kisses
for the oxygen we inhale
b r e a t h e
it in slowly
like sipping tea in the twilight morn
honey and vanilla light up
my nervous system
as the sun grows ever brighter
and the birds kick up a fuss
going off on one
singing
like guileless alarm clocks
raving and preaching
winds whipping west
and dearest,
I welcome you home
welcome us back
when time stands still
like snapping a Polaroid
freezing
in this moment we shall live
f o r e v e r m o r e.”
