Dodgy

Adjective, informal

Dishonest or unreliable; suspicious; potentially dangerous; of low quality.

“The phone rings in the middle of the night-three forty-eight according to your digital clock-and at first you don’t bolt upright in bed, chest heaving and mind racing. No, it weaves inside your dream and you believe you’ve answered your phone, mumble out a sleepy ‘hullo?’ But it’s the sound of your voice that whacks through the lucid fog. And your phone rings once more, now sending your fluttering heart into a dodgy pattern.”
